Charlestowne Landing 1, Conditions Assesment
For this project we would be working on a historic structure in Charlestowne Landing. The structure was originally built in the 1930's as a private schoolhouse. It then became a private clubhouse for the Old Town Club and a Center for the Preservation of Negro Spirituals. It now belongs to the State Park System and is used as offices. The building has had multiple additions and renovations over the years. Our task this semester was to use original source documents and find about the buildings history, and what changes may have been made to it over time. My particular part of the project was to conduct a general conditions assessment for the South and East Elevations for the building. The buildings main issues were some holes in the eaves of the roof that were letting water into the building, but other than that most of the conditions were good and only minor importance. On the pictures below green shows areas of bio-growth, red mortar repointing, brown foliage encroachement, and yellow areas of structural damage.
