Senior Capstone Project, St. Joeseph Tympanium
For my senior capstone project I was assigned to work on a project for a client who was overseeing the construction of a seminary in North Carolina. The initial project was for a tympanum that would stretch over the main entrance of the structure. Initial sketches were worked on of various religious scenes and working closely with the client, one central scene inspired from a sculpture of Abraham in Issac in Chartes Cathedral was chosen as a starting point.
For the background of the tympanum i would use branches of oak with strict proportions to try to give a balanced orderly scene. While the tympanum design I made was not ultimately chosen by the client, he did express interest in the central sculpture design. I would complete this sculpture in Italy the month after graduation from ACBA.
