Queen Eleanor Full Scale Model
For this project I was asked by my instructor to make adjustments to an existing model of Queen Eleanor completed by another student. I used a live model to adjust the proportions and changed the pose of the statue to be more upright. In all stages I would consult historical images of an existing statue of Queen Eleanore in England but at the same time I wanted to avoid a direct copy, as the original statue is in relief and the project I was working on was to be in the round.
Important lessons were learned on this project, being mainly to not alter existing works by other people. Adjustments to the sculpture were complicated by me not knowing the layout of the exiting armature inside or its design and materials. When adjustments were to be made they ended up taking much longer than anticipated due to hitting the armature having to cut it back clean and shellac many times due to various intrusions.
If asked to do a similar project in the future I would offer to create a new version from scratch that way I would have better control over the armature and design. In this case starting from scratch would have saved time over adjusting an existing work.
